Privacy Policy

Introduction

Welcome to the Privacy Policy for The Meat Rack website. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains how we (the companies behind The Meat Rack film project) collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our website, and outlines your rights under GDPR.

Who We Are (Data Controllers)

This website is operated by Gamechanger Group Ltd (the primary production company) and Scrien (the secondary production company). For the purposes of data protection law (GDPR), Gamechanger Group Ltd and Scrien act as joint Data Controllers of any personal data collected on this site. This means both companies determine how and why your personal data is processed.

  • Gamechanger Group Ltd – A film production company registered in the UK. Registered office: 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.

  • Scrien – A secondary production company collaborating on The Meat Rack. (For privacy inquiries, Scrien can be reached via the contact details provided in this policy.)

Throughout this policy, references to “we,” “us,” or “our” refer collectively to Gamechanger Group Ltd and Scrien.

What Data We Collect

We only collect personal data that is necessary for running our website and providing information or services you request. The types of data we may collect include:

  • Contact Information: When you fill out a contact form or otherwise get in touch, we collect information such as your name, email address, and any other details you provide in your message.

  • Mailing List Information: If you sign up for our newsletter or mailing list, we collect your email address (and possibly your name) to send you updates about The Meat Rack and related news.

  • Browsing & Usage Data: When you visit our site, we automatically collect certain data through analytics tools. This may include your IP address, browser type, device information, pages you visit, time spent on the site, and other diagnostic information. This data is generally collected via cookies and similar technologies (see the Cookiessection below). While this information does not directly identify you by name, it can be considered personal data under GDPR if it can be linked to you.

We do not intentionally collect any sensitive personal data (such as racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, health information, etc.) on this website. We ask that you only provide the basic contact details we request and do not include sensitive information in any messages you send us.

How We Use Your Data

We will only use your personal data for specific purposes and in accordance with the law. The main purposes for which we process your information are:

  • Responding to Enquiries: If you contact us through a form or email, we will use your provided name and contact details to respond to your questions or requests. For example, if you ask about the film or our services, we’ll use your email to reply to you with the information you need.

  • Mailing List Communications: If you subscribe to our newsletter or updates, we will use your email address (and name, if given) to send you periodic news about The Meat Rack, such as project updates, behind-the-scenes insights, or related promotional content. You will only receive these emails if you have actively signed up or consented to them, and you can unsubscribe at any time (see the Opt-Out and Unsubscribing section).

  • Site Analytics and Improvements: We analyze how visitors use our website in order to improve its content, functionality, and user experience. For instance, we look at aggregate browsing data (like which pages are most visited or how users navigate the site) to understand what interests our audience and to make the site more user-friendly. This analysis helps us fix problems, optimize our content, and ensure our website remains relevant and engaging.

  • Maintaining Security: In some cases, we may process IP addresses or other technical data to help protect our website and users from fraud, abuse, or security threats. This could include using the data to detect and prevent malicious activities or violations of our site’s terms.

We will not use your personal data for any purposes that are incompatible with those listed above. If we ever need to use your data for a new purpose, we will update this Privacy Policy and, if required, notify you or seek your consent.

Third-Party Services

To operate our website and services effectively, we rely on a few trusted third-party service providers. These third parties process or store data on our behalf, and we ensure they meet high standards of data protection and security. The key third-party services we use include:

  • Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics (a web analytics service provided by Google) to collect and analyze information about how visitors use our site. Google Analytics uses cookies (small text files placed on your device) to gather data such as your IP address, browser type, referring pages, and time spent on pages. This information is transmitted to Google and aggregated to help us understand website traffic and usage patterns. We use these insights to improve the site’s performance and content. (Google only provides us with anonymized, aggregated data; we do not receive personally identifiable information like your name from Analytics reports.) Google operates internationally, so your usage data may be processed on servers outside your country, but Google Analytics is configured to anonymize IP addresses where possible. You can opt out of Google Analytics as explained in the Cookies section below.

  • Email Newsletter Service: To manage our mailing list and send out newsletters or update emails, we may use a third-party email service provider. If you subscribe to our updates, your name and email address may be stored on that provider’s systems. Such providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and only use it to send our communications to you. (For example, we might use a service like Mailchimp, SendGrid, or similar; if so, your data would be stored securely on their servers for the purpose of email distribution.)

  • Web Hosting and Platform Providers: Our website may be hosted on a third-party platform or web hosting service. This means any data you submit (such as form entries) could be stored on their servers. We choose reputable hosting providers that employ strong security measures. For instance, if our site is built on a content management system or hosted by a service like Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress.com, those providers will have access to the data stored on the site (subject to strict privacy obligations).

We only share your data with third-party services to the extent necessary for them to perform their functions. Each of these providers is bound by their own privacy policies and by agreements with us to handle your data lawfully and securely. We do not allow these third parties to use your personal information for their own purposes.

Cookies

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer or device when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognize your device and store certain information about your preferences or past actions. Cookies can be "session" cookies (which expire when you close your browser) or "persistent" cookies (which remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them).

How We Use Cookies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies on The Meat Rack website for a few reasons:

  • Functionality: Some cookies are essential for the website to function correctly or to remember your preferences. For example, if our site has a cookie consent banner, once you accept or decline, a cookie will remember your choice so you aren’t prompted again on your next visit.

  • Analytics: We use cookies (through Google Analytics as mentioned above) to collect information about how visitors interact with our site. These analytics cookies help us count visitors, see which pages are popular, and understand overall visitor behavior. The data collected via analytics cookies is anonymous and aggregated — it does not directly identify you. It helps us improve the site over time.

We do not use cookies for advertising or invasive tracking. All cookies used are intended to make our site work better and to help us understand how to serve you best.

Your Choices for Cookies

Upon your first visit to our site, you will be informed about our use of cookies (e.g., via a banner or notice). You have the right to choose whether to accept or reject non-essential cookies:

  • Cookie Consent: If we present a cookie consent tool, you can opt in or out of various categories of cookies (such as analytics) right away. If you choose to decline analytics cookies, Google Analytics will not track your visit.

  • Browser Settings: Regardless of any prompt, you can control cookies through your web browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. You can usually find these options under the “Privacy” or “Security” settings of your browser. Blocking all cookies might affect some functionality of our site (for example, the site might forget your preferences), but you will still be able to read content.

  • Google Analytics Opt-Out: Google provides an opt-out browser add-on if you wish to prevent Google Analytics from collecting data on any website you visit. You can download and install this plugin from Google’s site, which will stop data from being sent to Google Analytics.

Remember, you are in control of your cookie preferences. If you have any trouble managing cookies or have questions about our cookie use, feel free to contact us (see Contact Us below).

Data Security

We take the security of your personal data very seriously. Gamechanger Group Ltd and Scrien have implemented appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:

  • Secure Hosting: Our website is hosted on secure servers that use firewalls and encryption. Any personal data stored in our website database or with our service providers is protected by strong security protocols. For example, if our site runs on a platform like Wix or another host, your data is stored in secure data centers with monitoring and firewall protection.

  • Encryption: Wherever feasible, we use encryption to protect data. Our site employs HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) for all pages, meaning that data transmitted between your browser and our website is encrypted in transit. This helps prevent eavesdropping on any information you send through forms.

  • Access Controls: We limit access to personal data only to those team members, contractors, or partners who need it for the purposes described in this policy. Those who do have access are subject to confidentiality obligations. We also ensure that any third-party service providers we use have robust security practices (for example, our email newsletter provider or analytics provider are vetted for GDPR compliance).

  • Regular Monitoring: We keep our website software, plugins, and systems up to date to protect against security vulnerabilities. We also monitor for possible threats and have procedures in place to deal with any suspected data breach. In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

While we strive to protect your information, please note that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee absolute security. However, we continuously review and enhance our security measures to keep your data as safe as possible.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

Your privacy is important to us. We treat your personal information with care and do not sell or rent your data to third parties for their own marketing or any other purposes.

We will never share your personal data with unrelated third parties unless one of the following circumstances applies:

  • Service Providers: As mentioned under Third-Party Services, we may share information with trusted third-party vendors who perform services for us (such as website hosting, analytics, or email distribution). They are only given access to the data necessary to carry out those services on our behalf, and they are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the purposes we specify. For example, if we use an email service to send newsletters, that service will have your email address solely to send our emails, and not for their own use.

  • Legal Obligations: We may disclose your personal data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court order, law enforcement inquiry, or regulatory requirement). If a law or regulation compels us to share data, we will only share the minimum necessary information and will, if lawful, inform you of such disclosure.

  • Protection of Rights: In rare cases, we might share information if it’s necessary to establish, exercise, or defend our legal rights. For instance, if someone’s communications to us contain threats or illegal activity, we might share data with law enforcement to protect the safety, rights, or property of our team, our users, or others. Similarly, if there is a merger, acquisition, or other business transaction involving The Meat Rack project, personal data might be transferred to new owners under the condition that your rights remain protected.

Aside from the scenarios above, we will not share your personal information with any third parties. In particular, we do not share or transfer your data to other companies for their own marketing purposes. If in the future we ever need to share data in a new way not covered in this policy, we will update this policy accordingly and notify you when appropriate, so you remain informed and in control.

Your Rights Under GDPR

As an individual using our website from the UK, EU, or elsewhere governed by GDPR, you have extensive rights regarding your personal data. We are committed to upholding these rights. You have the following data protection rights:

  • Right of Access: You can request confirmation of whether we are processing your personal data, and if so, ask for a copy of the data we hold about you. This allows you to see what information we have and to verify that we are processing it lawfully.

  • Right to Rectification: If any personal data we hold about you is incorrect or incomplete, you have the right to have it corrected. For example, if you change your email address or notice a typo in the data we have, you can ask us to update it.

  • Right to Erasure: Also known as the “right to be forgotten,” this allows you to request the deletion of your personal data when it’s no longer needed for the purposes it was collected, or if you withdraw consent (in cases where consent is the legal basis) or object to our processing (and there are no overriding legitimate grounds for us to keep using the data). We will honor valid requests to erase your data, and will also instruct any third-party processors to delete the data they hold on our behalf, provided no lawful exception to erasure applies.

  • Right to Restrict Processing: You have the right to ask us to limit the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances. This could apply if you contest the accuracy of the data, for example, and want us to pause processing until we verify or correct it; or if you need us to keep the data (without further processing) beyond our normal retention period for a legal claim. When processing is restricted, we can still store your data but will not use it further until the restriction is lifted.

  • Right to Object: You can object to our processing of your personal information when such processing is based on our legitimate interests (or those of a third party) and you feel it impacts your fundamental rights and freedoms. You also have an absolute right to object at any time to the processing of your personal data for direct marketing purposes. If you object, we will consider whether our legitimate grounds for processing outweigh your rights; if not, we will stop the processing in question. In the case of direct marketing (such as our newsletters), if you object or unsubscribe, we will stop using your data for that purpose immediately.

  • Right to Data Portability: For any data that you have provided to us and which we process by automated means based on your consent or in performance of a contract, you have the right to request a copy in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format (for example, a CSV file). You also have the right to have that data transmitted to another controller, where technically feasible. This right facilitates moving your data to other services if needed. (In practice, this right is most relevant if you provided us with data for a service we offer; since our site is primarily informational, it might not strictly apply, but we include it for completeness.)

  • Right to Withdraw Consent: If we rely on your consent to process any of your personal data (such as sending optional marketing emails or using certain non-essential cookies), you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing we conducted prior to your withdrawal. It simply means we will stop the specific activity that was based on consent. For example, if you subscribed to our mailing list, you can unsubscribe (withdraw consent) and we will stop sending you newsletters.

  • Right to Lodge a Complaint: If you believe we have infringed your data protection rights or violated GDPR in how we handle your data, you have the right to file a complaint with a supervisory authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). If you are in the EU, you can contact your local data protection authority. We encourage you to contact us first with any concerns (we take privacy seriously and will do our best to resolve any issue), but you always have the right to reach out to the regulators directly.

Exercising Your Rights: You can exercise any of your rights by contacting us (see the Contact Us section below). We will respond to your requests as soon as possible, and within one month at most (as required by GDPR). We will not usually charge a fee for fulfilling requests, unless they are excessive or repetitive, in which case we would let you know and charge a reasonable fee or refuse the request with explanation. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a data rights request, to ensure we don’t disclose or alter data to the wrong person.

Opt-Out and Unsubscribing

Unsubscribing from Emails:

If you have signed up to receive our newsletter or updates, you have the option to unsubscribe at any time. Each email we send includes an “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom. Simply click that link, and you will be automatically removed from our mailing list. You will stop receiving future emails from us. Alternatively, you can contact us directly (via email or contact form) and request to be removed from our mailing list – we will manually ensure you no longer receive communications.

We will process an unsubscribe request promptly, but please note that you might receive one final email if it was already in the process of being sent when you unsubscribed. After that, you will no longer receive newsletters or promotional communications.

Opting Out of Other Communications:

If we ever send other types of communications (for example, personal responses to inquiries or necessary service emails), those are not marketing communications and thus not subject to general “unsubscribe.” However, if you wish to stop receiving any communication from us altogether, please contact us and we will respect your request wherever possible (note that we may still need to send critical notices, if any, regarding things like changes to this policy or other legal matters).

Cookies and Analytics Opt-Out:

As described in the Cookies section, you can opt out of analytics tracking by refusing analytics cookies or using browser tools. You can also clear cookies from your browser at any time to reset your preferences. If you have questions about stopping certain data collection (like Google Analytics), feel free to reach out to us for guidance.

We want you to have control over your information and how we use it. Opting out of marketing or data collection will have no negative effect on your access to our website beyond the intended purpose (for instance, if you opt out of cookies, the site will still work, though some personalization or analytics features may be disabled).
